Tonight, on Saturday, August 23, 2025, we dined at Whiskey River in Hot Springs. This rustic yet inviting restaurant and bar combines comfort with sophistication, offering eclectic food, cocktails, and beer on tap at prices that won’t break the bank.
For dinner, both my friend and I ordered the smashburger. They came topped with fresh field greens (rather than iceberg lettuce) and onion, with a side of crispy French fries that he said were excellent. I had my smashburger with pickle, onion, lettuce, and tomato, and chose the onion rings instead of fries. The onion rings were perfectly crispy, and both of our burgers were absolutely delicious. The food came out quickly after we ordered, which was a pleasant surprise. Without question, the food deserves a 5.0 rating.
The atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable, fitting perfectly with the restaurant’s rustic charm. The only downside was that it took about 10 minutes before menus were brought to our table and our order was taken. Still, once things got moving, the service was friendly and efficient.
On a scale of 1 to 5, I would give Whiskey River a solid 4.75 overall—an excellent dining experience that I would gladly recommend to both locals and visitors in the Black Hills.
