On Thursday, November 19th a friend and I had to travel through Beatrice, NE. On the way back we were hungry and the easiest place to find that wasn’t a national chain was Jeannie’s Café. Jeannie’s Café is listed as being in Beatrice, Nebraska but is actually on Highway 77 going into Beatrice Nebraska. Its location is 18550 US-77, Beatrice, NE 68310-6780.
We wondered how good a café could be nested inside a convenience store, that being a U-Stop. And guess what? A friend who was with me that day and we were pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t just another greasy spoon.
I had the Western burger. This came with a choice of a side and I chose Onion rings. The Western burger was served on Texas toast and came with an American cheese slice, an onion ring (on the burger), and a tantalizing barbecue sauce. I also ordered ranch dressing to go with the onion rings. For my Western burger, I would give Jeannie’s Café 5 stars out of 5. As for the onion rings they were good but they couldn’t match up to the quality of those found at Runza in Lincoln, NE. This is of course opinion but I only give them 4.5 stars out of 5 stars.
The friend who accompanied me ordered a Swiss Cheese Mushroom Burger. He was surprised to find that it came with lettuce and on onion on it. He emphasized that it was good but a bit unusual with those extra ingredients, so he at best would only give it 4 stars out of a 5-star scale. He enjoyed the crinkle-cut French fries and would rate them at 5 stars on the 5-star scale.
The service was fast and we got our food within 15 minutes. The atmosphere was what one would expect in a convenience store based café.
I would give the food a rating of 4.5 stars out of 5. Atmosphere 5 stars. Service would get 5 stars. Overall rating 4.75 stars out of 5.
After researching there are variations of Jeannie’s Café at UStops in other locations such as Lincoln, Nebraska, and Hickman, NE going by other names such as Jeannie’s Kitchen and Jeannie’s Express.
